Chris Backus, a 2000 SM East graduate who moved to Los Angeles and married Oscar-winning actress Mira Sorvino in 2004, was arrested early Sunday morning in San Diego for public drunkenness.

According to E! Online, police were called to the Hyatt Regency Islandia hotel where Backus and Sorvino were staying after guests reported hearing the two arguing.

TMZ.com and GossipCop.com both reported that Backus held a baseball bat while yelling at guests and hotel security guards.

Backus was a starting pitcher for the Lancers baseball team, and had designs on playing professionally before injuries sidelined him. Backus, 28, and Sorvino, 43, have three children together.

This isn’t the first incident where a public display from Backus has drawn the attention of the press. In 2005, a series of outbursts during a Los Angeles recreational baseball league’s games prompted the New York Daily News to write an article about his temper.
