A white Christmas in Prairie Village, or just a wet one?

Share this story:

Yesterday weather forecasters were by and large predicting snow with accumulation of more than an inch.

Today, the forecasts seem to be calling for a mix of ice and rain. Weather Underground’s hourly forecast for the area has a 90 percent change of “ice pellets” falling until 3 p.m., after which it may change over to snow.

If we do manage to eek out enough actual snow accumulation that it lasts through tomorrow, it would be our second white Christmas in a row. After a thunderstorm on Dec. 23 last year, the temperature dropped quickly on Christmas Eve day and the wet weather turned to a barrage of snow. A total of nine inches fell on the area, causing travel delays and church service cancellations.

The weather service has issued a weather advisory for the Kansas City area today until 6 p.m.
