After police calls following KCCC display, Mission Hills updates fireworks laws

Two months after a massive fireworks display at a Kansas City Country Club wedding flooded local police dispatch lines with questions from confused citizens, the Mission Hills city council has updated its fireworks ordinances.

The new rules, which were approved by the council Monday, change the application time to 30 days before the event from the current 10 days and require applicants to show proof of state permit. They also increase the liability insurance requirements to $1 million for property and injury, and require a review by the police in addition to the fire marshall.
