Local voter turnout outpaces countywide figures

Turnout at local polling places, like Prairie Baptist Church, was high.

Way to be active and engaged citizens, northeast Johnson County!

The official voter turnout figures released by the Johnson County Election Office Monday show that Prairie Village, Fairway and Mission Hills all had higher voter turnouts in last week’s election than the countywide rate of 50.5 percent.

Prairie Village brought up the rear in the area with 56.35 percent (9,636 out of 17,099 registered voters), followed by Fairway with 58.6 percent (1,899 out of 3,236 registered voters). Mission Hills led with 64.6 percent (1,910 out of 2,954 registered voters).

Still, turnout in the area dipped significantly from 2008, when the presidential election brought out voters in droves. Turnout in northeast Johnson County in 2008 was between 70 and 80 percent in most areas.
