Dow Tate, the Shawnee Mission East journalism teacher who earlier this year received a Gold Key from the Columbia University Scholastic Press Association, has been named a Region 3 finalist for the 2011 Kansas Teacher of the Year award. The other finalist from Region 3 is Karen Tritt, who won the Kansas Teacher of the Year award in 2010 as a foreign language teacher at Shawnee Mission West.

Tate and Tritt will join the finalists from the other three regions in the state at a ceremony in Wichita on November 20 where the winner will be announced.
