PACs, Star make endorsements in local primaries

With the August 3 primary for state and federal offices just two weeks away, a number of political action committees and other interested organizations have released lists of endorsed candidates. Here’s a rundown of who has gotten the nod from whom in the state races that will affect the SME school district:

Kansas House of Representatives District 20:

Stephanie Sawyer Clayton (R)

Stephanie Sawyer Clayton (R): endorsed by the Mainstream Coalition, Steve Rose of the Johnson County Sun, and the Kansas City Star, which called her “brave enough to resist the notion of striking down the three-year sales tax hike at a time when Kansas is struggling to find money for essential services.

Rob Bruchman (R): endorsed by the Kansas Chamber of Commerce and Kansans for Life.

Rob McKnight (D): endorsed by the Mainstream Coalition though he doesn’t have a primary opponent. McKnight switched parties to run as a Democrat citing concerns that a moderate Republican candidate might not make it into the general election.

Kansas House of Representatives District 21:

Kay Wolf (R): the incumbent was endorsed by the Mainstream Coalition though she doesn’t have a primary opponent.

Kansas House of Representatives District 25:

Barbara Bollier (R): the incumbent was endorsed by the Mainstream Coalition though she doesn’t have a primary opponent.

Shana Althouse (D): endorsed by the Mainstream Coalition though she doesn’t have a primary opponent.

Kansas Senate District 7:

Terrie Huntington (R)

Terrie Huntington (R): the incumbent was endorsed by the Mainstream Coalition and the Star, which said Huntington “has been an effective advocate for schools and area economic development in her years as a state representative, and as a senator selected to fill a vacancy last session. Her backing of the state transportation bill, for which she is under fire in this campaign, will bring jobs to Johnson County.”

David Harvey (R): was endorsed by the Kansas Chamber of Commerce, and Kansans for Life.
