Friends and family this week are mourning the loss of Douglas James Russell, Jr., who died Nov. 5 in Fairway. He was 27.

Russell was a veteran of the United States Navy, where he was an Operation Specialist Second Class. He also worked for the United States Postal Service.

Russell is survived by his mother and father, Leann and Douglas Russell; his brother and sister, Brandon and Megan Russell; his three children, Bryon, Lexie and Vincent Russell; his grandparents, John and Sandra McKean and Hollie and Nancy Russell; and his great grandfather, Bill McKean. His is also survived by his best friend and the mother of two of his children, Nancy Roudebush; and by his wife, Gina Russell.

An open casket visitation service will be held Tuesday, Nov. 15 from 11 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. at Belden-Larkin Funeral Home, 707 S. 6th Street in Leavenworth. A military burial will follow at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Russell’s honor to The Humane Society of Greater Kansas City in recognition of his love of pets.
