East-IraIra “Bo” East, 90, passed away at his home on Monday, November 7, 2016, the day that would have been his 68th wedding anniversary. He was preceded in death by Joann, his wife of 63 years and childhood sweetheart, his beloved son, Ron, and his parents, Ira Franklin and Anna Mary East.

Ira and Joann raised four children in Kansas City, Missouri. His family was Ira’s greatest passion. He cherished them, as well as his many beloved friends, and enjoyed spending time with each of them. A devout Catholic, Ira attended mass every day and met with men of his parish in breakfast groups. His weekday group, the MOMS (Men of McDonald’s) met at their favorite restaurant to discuss politics, sports, and always, their faith. He was active in his parishes; St Catherine’s, Christ the King, St. Thomas More and Church of the Nativity. One of his greatest passions was the field of real estate in which he worked his entire life, building houses, developing property and selling residential and commercial properties for J.C. Nichols and United Farm Agency. In 1986, he and Joann fulfilled a dream when they established their own company, Ira F. East, Realty, and built it into a successful business. During his real estate career, Ira became well known in the Kansas City business community and was respected as a man of integrity and honesty.

Ira leaves behind three surviving children, Anne Jeanette Austin of Edmond, Oklahoma, Jane Elizabeth Rowe of Kansas City, and Jeffrey Franklin East of Nice, France. He also leaves behind his sister, Lois Kathleen Smith, of Clinton, Missouri. Six grandchildren also survive him; Matthew Austin, Jason Rowe, Margaret Bruce, Alexander East, Megan Guynes, and Madison East who brought much joy to Ira. He was also blessed with six great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Eliza, Dylan, Ava, Sloane and Penelope.
