Shawnee Mission East senior Clayton Phillips is trying to win his second state title this calendar year.

Clayton Phillips knows a thing or two about about state as he’s been twice for baseball and even won a title back in May.

He’s trying to help Shawnee Mission East soccer win its first title in program history.

The senior forward said the team is going to be loose like it has been all year and they won’t change a thing even though the stakes are higher.

Phillips, who has netted 21 balls this season, is one goal away from tying the school record for goals in a season, 22, and as much as he wants it, he’s not going to be greedy about it. If has the opportunity to score, he’s going to take it, but won’t try to force anything.

He knows he’s a weapon that can take pressure off his other teammates, who have just a knack for putting the ball in the back of the net.

The Lancers will face Dodge City in the semifinals on Friday at Wichita South.
