Michael J Montee, 69, passed to his heavenly redeemer on September 22, 2016 peacefully in his home. Mike was born to Elmer “Boots” and Alice Montee on May 16, 1947 in Salina, Kansas. He and his family lived in Gypsum, Kansas, and he graduated from Gypsum High School. After high school, he attended and graduated from Emporia State University and was active in his fraternity Phi Delta Theta.
After Emporia State, he married his college sweetheart Patricia L Sallee on December 6, 1969. He began his long career in telecommunications which took him to Saint Louis and Kansas City. Trish and Mike raised three beautiful daughters, Lara, Amy and Stacy.
He was a long time member of Community Covenant Church, where he was active in many ministries, including the choir and children’s education. He loved his church and church family, but most of all, his savior.
Mike and Trish enjoyed life to the fullest. Mike spoke joyfully of the adventures and trips that he enjoyed with his wife and his siblings. He loved his time volunteering for his church and other organizations. He spent many summers volunteering for Royal Family Kids Camp working with abused and abandoned children. Mike’s favorite activity was spending time with his eight grandchildren. His joy and love have spread to each of his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife Patricia of 46 years, daughters Lara (Tom) Laughlin of Olathe, Kansas and their children, Michael, Jenna and Nathan, Amy (Todd) Burton of Olathe, Kansas and their children Grace and Josh, Stacy (Jeremy) Schmidtlein of Shawnee, Kansas and their children Carson, Logan and Ella. He is also survived by his mother Alice (Alan) Rowan of Wichita, Kansas, brother Monty (Sheryl) Montee of Salina, Kansas, sisters LaDonna Bennett of Salina, Kansas and Joleen (Gary) O’Neal of Emporia, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer “Boots” Montee and brother in law Marvin Bennett.
A Christian celebration will be held Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Community Covenant Church.
