Catherine (Kay) B. Lanan, 90

Catherine (Kay) B. Lanan, 90, of Overland Park, Kansas died in her home on Saturday, August 20, 2016 surrounded by three generations of her family. Kay was born on November 11, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois to James and Agalia Rakas. She was the youngest of seven children. She married Joe Lanan of Kingston, Illinois on August 15, 1948, and they began their life together on the family farm in DeKalb County, Illinois.

Kay was a loving wife and mother and a much adored grandmother and great grandmother (GG). She taught 2nd Grade for over 20 years in the Genoa, Illinois Public Schools. After retiring Joe and Kay enjoyed time at their second home in Mesa, Arizona. They also loved traveling and visited many interesting destinations. After Joe passed away, Kay moved to Overland Park where she had children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Everywhere she lived, Kay made many friends.

Kay was preceded in death by her husband Joe to whom she was happily married for 58 years. Her parents and siblings also preceded her in death. She is survived by her three children Sara (Jim) Kircher, Carol (Mark) Higgins, Jeff Lanan and wife Marcela Renna, seven grandchildren: Valerie (Robert) Baehr, Julie Kircher, Jeremy (Sally) Higgins, Nathan Higgins, Jacob, Isaac and Sofia Lanan and three great-grandchildren: Rylie and Reid Baehr and Emily Higgins.

Following a memorial service at Mayfield Church in Sycamore, Illinois, a second memorial service for Kansas family and friends will be held at 3:00 pm Monday, August 29, 2016, at Park Meadows Senior Living, 5901 West 107th St, Overland Park 66207. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Mayfield Congregational Church UCC, 28405 Church Road, Sycamore, IL 60178 or the donor’s choice.
