Prairie Village schedules off-leash day for dogs at Franklin Park. Prairie Village residents will be able to let their dogs off the leash in an area of Franklin Park for a day next month. The police department and animal control announced that they will host a “Dog Days of Summer” event, in which pet owners will be able to let their dogs run off-leash, on August 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Franklin Park.

Mission family picnic set for Saturday. The annual Mission Summer Family Picnic will be held Saturday in Broadmoor Park starting at 6 p.m. The event features a free hot dog dinner with chips and drinks from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and ice cream sandwiches for desert. Inflatables, games and other actives are included and Consolidated Fire District No. 2 will cool off the crowd, so bring a bathing suit. Fireworks start at 9:30 p.m.

Shawnee Mission Health selects architect for Lee Ann Britain Infant Development Center expansion. Shawnee Mission Health announced on Tuesday that it had selected SVPA Architects of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Stanley Beaman & Sears out of Atlanta to design the new B.E. Smith Children’s Center, which will be the new home for the Lee Ann Britain Infant Development Center.

Name of victim in Leawood crash released. Leawood police on Tuesday announced that Donna Manning, 69, of Overland Park was the woman killed in the Sunday morning crash at 119th Street and State Line Road.
