Virginia Lee (Taylor) Trainor Olson, died Monday, June 13 at home in Hampton, Il, surrounded by family members. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 25th, 10 a.m. at St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church, 67th & Nall, Mission, where she had been an active member for fifty-nine years. A reception will be held in the Parish Hall after the service.
Virginia was born February 15, 1924 to Clare & “Jack” Taylor in Kansas City, Ks. She is survived by her sons Steve Trainor (Gaye Dunn), Hampton, Il., Randy Trainor (Judy Parkinson), Champaign, Il. and Mike Trainor (Dee), Prairie Village; step-sons Steve Olson (Brandie), Lee’s Summit and Denny Olson (Bonnie) Townville, S. C., brother-in-law Gary Olson (Barbara), Lee’s Summit, and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vance E. Olson, Jr., her sister Norma Jean Taylor, her parents, great-grandchild Kate Swob, and Lee Trainor, Jr.
In 1946, she married advertising executive Lee Trainor, Jr. and settled in Prairie Village in 1957 near 76th and Roe Ave. At the 25th Central High School reunion she re-met Vance and married a year later. Upon his retirement, they spent time traveling home and abroad. Virginia was especially dedicated to St. Michael’s spending more than thirty years in the Altar Guild, in addition to volunteering for parish pastoral care, librarian, office assistant, cooking for the homeless, and writing cards to shut-ins. She was honored to be one of several to needle point one of the kneeling cushions surrounding the church altar rail and a cushion for the Priests’ chair. She belonged to the Gladiola Chapter #459 of Eastern Star for over fifty years. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Michael & All Angels Memorial Fund or SmileTrain.org, a children’s charity.
