Johnson County’s water utility is searching for a new member for its board after the passing of six-term member Dick Noon earlier this month.

Noon, a longtime Leawood resident, died Dec. 9, leaving one of WaterOne’s seven governing board positions open.

Now, the utility is working quickly to solicit applications for a replacement and fill the seat.

“According to our bylaws, we do need to fill the position promptly and are accepting applications to be vetted by the remaining board members,” said WaterOne Director of Customer Relations Mandy Cawby. “It’s a rare mid-term opportunity for appointment to a local elected role impacting over 400,000 people – second only in the size of jurisdiction served by Johnson County Commissioners.”

Applications must be received by the WaterOne board secretary by 5 p.m. Jan. 4. In mid-January, the board’s Committee of the Whole will be meeting to review applications, with an announcement on their selection expected Feb. 17.
