Meadowbrook Golf & Country Club will close October 31. Members were advised of the closing by a letter from club owner VanTrust.

VanTrust Vice President of Asset Management Jeff Smith said the company is “close” to a decision on a development plan for the club’s approximately 63 acres. He said it is likely a plan will be filed with the City of Prairie Village by the end of the year. Members will be updated on new developments through the Meadowbrook web site, he said.

Earlier this summer, VanTrust sent a letter to members advising them that 2014 could be the final season, but that a possibility existed for the club to open in 2015. The entire property will be part of the development plan, Smith indicated.

“Over the last two months, we have seen a steady decline in our membership,” the letter from Smith read. “Although we have continued to pursue a variety of redevelopment scenarios, no final determination has yet to be made. As we evaluate these scenarios, it has become clear this will be MGCC’s last season.”

“As the golf season draws to a close, in the spirit of fairness to both our members and employees, we have elected to cease general operations of the club on October 31, 2014,” the letter to members reads. “As such, no dues will accrue after October 31st. As the end of October approaches, we will be communicating additional details. For those who have booked events in the clubhouse after this date, you will be contacted directly to address your specific arrangements.”

Smith said the club will work with those who have events, such as wedding receptions, to allow those to be held, possibly with outside catering.

“Since 1954, many generations have enjoyed the club and we sincerely hope these are the memories that live on,” the letter concluded.

More background on the development can be found in our earlier story.
