The new Mission Aquatic Center is off to a banner inaugural season. The pool complex was rebuilt after the season ended last year for the Mission Municipal Pool with construction being completed in time for the start of the 2014 season.
In a comparison of the first seven weeks of the aquatic center to the first seven weeks of the 2013 season, attendance is more than double. The Mission City Administrator’s report shows that 2,053 visits to the pool were recorded in 2013 and 4,336 in the same time period in 2014.
The number of Super Pool Pass (a cooperative pool pass among several NEJC community pools) visits also has skyrocketed. As of a week ago, 1,303 visitors had used the aquatic center in Mission using a super pass compared to only 573 visits for the entire 2013 season.
The Mission results since the new aquatic center opened fly in the face of pool use around the metro as reported by the Kansas City Star Sunday. The report showed that wet and unseasonable weather at the start of this year has severely hampered attendance at municipal pools.
The new aquatic center was constructed with a voter approved sales tax increase. The aquatic center has a number of new features including a new bathhouse, competition lanes, slide, splash area and bleachers.
