Developer Tom Valenti was in Mission Wednesday to deliver an update to the City Council on the status of his company’s long-stalled Mission Gateway project — a project the city has agreed to allow Tax Increment Financing for.
Grading on the site has been largely completed, but the laying of the foundation, which had initially been scheduled to start last year, has not begun. Valenti assured the council that the project was still a go — but there appear to be significant hurdles to clear before construction can begin. Councilor Dave Shephard suggested that with the changes to the project, Valenti may have to get a revised TIF agreement with the city passed by a supermajority of the council — and given the recent turnover on the governing body, that vote would be anything but a sure thing.
Do you think the Mission Gateway project will ever be built? Where do you think the bulk of the blame rests for the troubles with the project thus far?
