Merrill makes US Lacrosse All-American team. Mackey Merrill, the Bishop Miege senior who plays for the Lancers lacrosse team, was named the the US Lacrosse All-American team for the second year in a row. Merrill has already committed to play at the college level at Georgetown University. He suffered an injury to his leg in the Lancers’ season-ending loss to Pembroke Hill in the Lacrosse Association of Kansas City semi-final earlier this month. Bishop Miege doesn’t have a lacrosse team, so Miege students are allowed to compete for other schools.
SM East, SM North softball seasons come to an end. Wednesday proved to be the close of the 2014 softball season for both SM East and SM North. The Indians lost to second seeded Olathe South 15-3 in the opening round. SM East prevailed in its opening round game against SM Northwest 5-1, but couldn’t get past Olathe South in the regional final, falling 9-2.
SM East soccer looking for trip to state tonight. SM East’s girls soccer team will be looking to advance to the state playoff bracket tonight in its regional championship game against Blue Valley West. The game starts at 6 p.m. at the Shawnee Mission Soccer Complex.
Development for 80th and Metcalf in early planning stages. The developer who has started construction of the Village at Mission Farms complex just north of I-435 is planning for a new project at 80th Street and Metcalf Avenue just west of northeast Johnson County. The ePartment Communities developers are looking for tax-increment financing to build a project on the site of an abandoned Sonic and the O’Neill Honda detailing facility. Brownback declares drought emergency. Five years of below average precipitation have dried the soil and drawn down reservoirs across the state, Kansas Gov.
