A week after their dominating performance in their Senior Night game at home against Leavenworth, SM East’s boys basketball team closed its regular season Friday with an upset victory over the rival SM South Radiers, who, at 14-3, were ranked among the top five teams in the state by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association.
The Lancers were led by a 21-point outburst from junior Lucas Jones on their way to a 58-43 victory that saw SM East in control for most of the evening. SM East took advantage of the chippy gameplay with deadly accuracy from the free throw line, scoring 24 points for an 83 percent free throw percentage.
The road win in a feisty gym should give the Lancers a good head of steam heading into the start of sub-state play on Thursday, when the Lancers will take on Blue Valley High in the SM East gym. The game starts at 7 p.m.
