A Fairway shop that once received the distinction of being among the “Three Coolest” stores in America as recognized by a jewelry trade magazine is closing in favor of operating primarily on the web.
Churchill, which has had its storefront on Belinder Street next to the Fairway Police Department for eight years, will shut its doors sometime in March, says manager Chris Garrett.
“We don’t know the exact date, but it will be soon,” he said. “We’ve been online for many years now, and more and more that’s where things are moving. So we’re going to commit more time there.”
Chuchill specializes in luxury accessories, featuring antiques and jewelry, primarily.
Garrett said Churchill owner Sally Hilkene is exploring the possibility of opening another story in southern California. Churchill opened 10 years ago in its initial location at the Crestwood Shops in Kansas City, Mo., before moving to its Fairway location two years later. The business also had a store on the Country Club Plaza, which closed ahead of a proposed redevelopment in the area.
