It didn’t take firefighters long to put down a house fire on 74th Street in Prairie Village late this afternoon, which was a good thing considering temperatures were in the teens at the time.
Firefighters from Consolidated Fire District No. 2 were called to the one-story residence shortly before 2:20 p.m. this afternoon to handle the fire that had started in a crawl space at the rear of the home. The homeowner was unsuccessful in getting it out with a fire extinguisher, according to Battalion Chief Tony Lopez.
No one was hurt and the two occupants were still inside the home. Lopez said it only took a few minutes to contain the fire. Keeping the home’s pipes from freezing after the damage posed the next challenge.
The home is in the 2200 block of 74th Street less than two blocks from State Line Road.
