Peterson is challenging incumbent Ed Eilert for the chairmanship, with the general election scheduled for November.
A release distributed by the Peterson campaign said the fund came from more than 150 donors.
“I am humbled by the outpouring of support by people who share my vision for a better Johnson County, and the fact that we reached our goal without the help of corporate and political action committee contributions,” Peterson said.
Peterson’s campaign claimed he has at least $5,000 more cash on hand than Eilert. Eilert’s October to November finance report was not available on the Johnson County Elections Office website as of this writing.
