Burglars make short work of unlocked cars near Canterbury and Windsor

Lock those cars at night, Villagers.

At least seven Prairie Village residents who live in the vicinity of Canterbury and Windsor Streets had their cars burglarized between Sunday night and Monday morning. Capt. Wes Lovett of the Prairie Village Police Department said all of the cars hit by the burglars were unlocked.

The burglars stole electronics — including computers and digital music players — as well as jewelry and other valuables. One woman reported that while the burglars took electronics from the front of her family’s car, they left several hundred dollars worth of lacrosse equipment in the back.

Lovett said the police were able to recover the containers for many of the stolen items, like jewelry bags and computer cases, which the burglars discarded.

It’s not the first time such an attack has hit the area (as we can attest, having been hit ourselves).

Lovett said the best way to protect yourself is to double check that you’ve locked your car every night.

“They’re looking for easy targets,” he said. “They just go house to house and start trying car doors.”
