A controversial zoning decision on a building in the Ranchmart North shopping center near 95th Street and Mission Road will be decided October 15.
The Leawood City Council this week postponed its final action on the zoning question and the final plan for a proposed Slab N Pickle barbecue restaurant. The plan to turn the old post office building into a restaurant has generated significant opposition from neighbors and has been the subject of multiple postponements. The stand-alone building is closer to residential housing than most of the other Ranchmart properties.
The controversy started early this year. Neighbors contend the proximity of the restaurant will affect their property values, and that the smell of smoking meat will be noticeable inside people’s homes.
