Two SM East softball players took advantage of one last opportunity to shine on the local level before heading off to their college careers.

Shannon McGinley and Kyra Slemp were the only two Shawnee Mission District players to represent Kansas in the Mo-Kan Softball All Star Games Monday at the Shawnee Mission Softball Complex. Courtney Gemmill of Bishop Miege made the Kansas All Star squad as well.

Slemp, the SM East shortstop who is off heading to play at Missouri S&T, turned two double plays at second base in the final of the three games against the Missouri team. McGinley, who will play for the University of Virginia next year, nabbed an impressive catch in the outfield. She also pitched during her career at SM East.

Alas, Missouri took two of three games in the All Star Games.

The softball team is also hosting a skills clinic this week at Indian Hills for young players. The clinic wraps up tomorrow.

McGinley works with a young player at the SM East youth softball clinic.
