2 SM East seniors named to Presidential Scholars candidate list

Share this story:

Two SM East students have made the prestigious candidate list for the Presidential Scholars, a national program established in 1964 to honor the nation’s most distinguished high school seniors.

Christian Wiles and Louis Ridgeway received letters two couple weeks ago letting them know they’d made the list of 500 students from across the country. The program chooses its candidates based on their SAT scores.

Wiles, you may recall, was one of only around 600 students across the country to notch a perfect 36 on his ACT. Wiles was also a National Merit Semifinalist.

The students have to fill out an application with several essays by Feb. 23. The program will announce its finalists in mid-April.

Two other Shawnee Mission students, Jack Rogers of SM Northwest and Megan Smith of SM West, made the candidates list as well.
