Mother of SM East student charged with murder says killing was not intentional

Share this story:

In an interview with KCTV 5’s Eric Chaloux Wednesday, the mother of the former SM East student charged with first degree murder in the death of SM North student Ryder Spillman said her son told her the incident was an accident.

Theresa Reed, mother of Stephen Reed, told Chaloux that Stephen says he shot a gun up in the air as a “scare tactic,” but was not aiming at Spillman.

“He shot up into the air and didn’t expect to hit him,” Reed said.

Theresa Reed said she recently learned that her son had been involved in incidents where guns were present twice before last weekend’s killing.
