Shaffer filed after collecting petition signatures from approximately 50 supporters, saying he wanted to ensure he still had the backing of community leaders before deciding to file.

“I want to continue to work on making Prairie Village a great place to live, to work, and to play,” Shaffer said. “We have a positive atmosphere here as a result of the hard work of previous mayors and council people, and I want to continue to build upon that.”

Shaffer said he felt his ties throughout the metro region, including his position on the Mid-American Regional Council board of directors, would continue to serve the area well.

To date, no other candidate has filed for April’s mayoral election. Shaffer did not face a challenger in his previous three runs for the office.

The filing deadline for the election is Jan. 25.
